Dottie’s writings are a refreshing and comforting reading of how she found purpose from the legacy awarded her. The greatest legacy is not one of wealth and things, but a legacy of greater value is one that promotes “living with purpose”. Alabama and Beyond reminds me of the importance of cherishing all life-time relationships, accomplishments, truths and values from those who touch my life. This book has the feel of home and gives the security of loving family and treasured traditions that “create a lasting legacy” for generations to follow.

For several years, I had the privilege of serving the Gravely family as their pastor. Allan was a member of our board of elders and also established an excellent library in our church. As you read Alabama and Beyond, you will understand the positive effect the Gravely family had on our church family. I am not surprised by the continual favor of the Lord upon them and their children. The legacy Dottie describes continues in the lives of their children and grandchildren. One way our church remains connected to this beautiful family is through supporting Charles and Amanda Gravely as AG missionaries in Belgium. Dottie’s account of their journey of faith is truly a testimony of the faithfulness of the Lord. You will definitely enjoy reading Alabama and Beyond.

Dottie’s story is warm and engaging and real. Whether the reader is a young mother needing encouragement for her decision to follow God’s plan for her life and for raising her family, or a grandmother like me who finds humor, connection to memories of her own childrearing years, and a “sister” in Jesus Christ, Dottie’s memoirs are a reminder that He is faithful and good in all things.

Alabama and Beyond is a refreshing book about the spirit of God dwelling in the life of Dottie Gravely. This book just draws you into the relationship Dottie has with the Lord and how it affects life’s outcomes. A young mom or a grandmother would be encouraged, challenged, and comforted by the "points to ponder” after each chapter. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to be drawn into the Holy Spirit encounter.
