Allan and I had the privilege of meeting Jennifer Miskov at the annual meeting of the Society of Pentecostal Studies in Springfield, Missouri. She had a display table for her new book near our display for our books (now 12 titles on Amazon*). Photo from website.
Her new book was a published version of her doctoral thesis on the life of Carrie Judd Montgomery, Life on Wings, The Forgotten Life and Theology of Carrie Judd Montgomery (1858-1946). It helped earn her PhD in Revivals at the University of Birmingham, Birmingham, England. We purchased a copy of it. I had been a fan of Mrs. Montgomery for several years.
Carrie Judd Montgomery had several claims to fame. (1) She was a pioneer in the divine healing movement of the late nineteenth century. Her healing ministry was launched through her own healing through the prayer of an African American lady, Mrs. Mix. Mrs. Montgomery became the editor of the magazine Triumphs of Faith for sixty years. It was filled with triumphal testimonies of contemporaries changed by God in various ways. (2) She was a friend of A. B. Simpson and a founding member of his new denomination, The Christian & Missionary Alliance (CMA). (3) Later, she was a founding member of the new 1913 fellowship, The Assemblies of God.
Thus, Jennifer chose an outstanding role model to research and get to know thoroughly for her doctoral work.
Then, she had the privilege of getting to know two well-known leaders who have boosted the faith of many disciples, Bill Johnson of Bethany Church in Redding, CA, [website: https://www.bethel.com] and Dr. Heidi Baker, speaker and director of orphanages in Mozambique, Africa. Recently, Jennifer shared in her blog one of the most outstanding role models of her life, one that she did not select for herself, her dad. [https://www.facebook.com/JenMiskov]
She writes:
When I was 3 weeks old, my father ended up in the hospital with a disease no one could define at the time. A few days later my mom, Dee Miskov, received a call from the doctor that he would either be paralyzed from the neck down or die. Thankfully, on Easter Sunday God miraculously healed him in answer to prayer. About a month later, he had relearned how to walk, and I’ve been blessed to grow up with my dad who has been present all along.
He always supported me in any and everything I did, whether it was sports or bodyboarding; he would never miss a game or competition. I never once questioned my dad’s love for me, not once.
One time when I was young, he was driving me somewhere on the freeway when my favorite hat blew off and into the center divide by the carpool lane. He knew how much I liked that hat, so he drove back on the freeway, parked on the side, and then ran across the lanes of traffic to rescue my hat.
Because I have never doubted my dad’s love for me, it has laid the foundation and helped me receive the love of God the Father and trust Him so easily. I am forever grateful.
With extreme sadness and gratitude, I want to share that my dad transitioned into glory peacefully Saturday night May 27 (Pentecost Weekend) and will be incredibly missed by all who knew him.
Thanks for everyone’s prayers and support for me and my family during this immense loss here on earth but great gain in heaven.
I end this post by quoting my dad’s favorite song which is my same offering of worship today…
“How can I say thanks for the things
You have done for me,
Things so undeserved
Yet You give to prove Your love for me?
The voices of a million angels
Could not express my gratitude.
All that I am and ever hope to be
I owe it all to Thee.
To God be the glory,
To God be the glory,
To God be the glory
For the things He has done.
With His blood He has saved me
With His pow'r He has raised me
To God be the glory
For the things He has done”
Selah.
Jennifer dedicated her book on Carrie Judd Montgomery to her parents, speaking of their great love for her. A child should never have to doubt a parent’s love. Neither should we ever doubt our Father’s love for us.
Thank you, Jennifer, for sharing this tribute with us. You are an example of choosing to walk with wise men and becoming wise. Surely great things are ahead for you.
*Allan has 5 titles, and Dottie has 7 on Amazon. Topics vary from theology to autobiography to devotional.
Photo below is a painting done by the late Lonnie Frisbee, one of the stars in the recent movie The Jesus Revolution. The real character, Lonnie Frisbee, was portrayed by Jonathan Kuomey, star of the popular series The Chosen, about the Person of Jesus Christ. Jennifer met the owners of the painting in 2020. At that time, they were 97 years old. The painting was a gift to them at an earlier time in their lives from Lonnie himself.
